The summit! What a hike. I would have to say this is one of the most memorable hikes I have completed to date. Experienced so many different zones. The snow and surrounding glaciers are amazing. I owe this day to my two sons who did not quit to conquer this peak Thank you boys.

July 7th - the male bears decided to trek up Perly Rock, a 6.5 mile hike (3000ft gain).

July 6th was just a R&R day for the KOZ family at the AO Wheeler hut.

We arrived at Revelstoke Park at 12:30. We had not eaten, since our luch on the trail. So we ate delicious sandwiches at Tim Horton's. We arrive at the AO Wheeler hut around 2:30 a..m., finding an empty hut! A great surprise, considering what we had just endured.

The Alpine Club was accommodating and allowed us to change our reservation to the AO Wheeler hut in Glacier National Park. Real backpackers / trekers never give up. We just look for the next on the horizon.

The trail narrowed and became steep. Probably 100-200 foot drop to the frozen lake. We went over three more scary snow fields on this narrow trail. We following the previous person's footstep. The trekking poles helped, but everyone really needed an ice ax, rope, and mountaineering crampons. Mother and Father bear had the precious little ones in their light backpack, while navigating this crazy stuff. I prayed Hail Marys along the way in hopes our guardian angels were watching over us. The scary feeling was real and each move could prove to be deadly. One missed step would be someone's last. I never thought I would put my family in harms way. The fourth snowfield was the last....... It was too much for my family. We turned back. Only 2.5 miiles into the trek, we went back to our car. One would say, why did you even begin this trek knowing the steepness and snowy/ice sections. Well, I did do my homework. I spoke with the local Park Warden, who covers this area. He called me on my cell phone to inform me that the trail is very wide and easy. Nothing too difficult or tricky. YES, next time our bears will have crampons...

Monday July 3, 2006 we enjoyed our day with a Traditional Catholic family, who is rasing their family away from the city crud. Their 5 month old calf.

We also visited the Coeur d'Alene Lake. What a beauty. A little questionable visit for our children's eyes. Might only want to visit this site in the winter or late fall.

First day of the amazing the second annual KOZ Vacation has ended! Traveled approximately 1,300 miles on a nonstop flight (23 hour car ride) to Post Falls, Idaho to spend three days with friends and seeing sites around the area. I'd might be stretching the thought that the "North" is in our backyard by the way we reached this area so efficently by car. Weather didn't impede this misson from commencing on time. Maybe my next job will be directing not blue, nor brown freight trucks, but yellow ones coast to coast.. At least you can be assured that your Christmas present will be on time, not a day late.

YES! I'm back to my teenage years! 4Dr. Compact car that has amazing configurations. I looked at numerous cars, before making my spontaneous purchase. Only a 20 minute drive and a 5 minute look, I was convinced the Honda FIT was IT! Forget Toyota year's, Toyota corolla, and the Toyota Matrix and even the Scion XA & Scion XB.. All are way over priced and lack the great roomy configurations that the FIT offers.
It appears Toyota is falling asleep at the wheel, when it comes to safety.
Most of their vehicles lack antilock brakes, side airbag curtain, etc.
I have travel over 600 miles (mostly city) and have averaged over 32 miles per gallon. This vehicle should be the official Computer Service Phoenix car for Affirmative Computer Service http://www.computerrepairservice.net Stay tuned for pictures.

We traveled 5 hours to West Edmonton Mall -- 48 blocks long with a huge indoor water and amusement park. A well deserved treat for the tremendous family effort. Before we reached the mall I was having

Our Tarp Tents from Henry Shires were extra light! Weighing in at just over 5.5lbs. The tarp tents kept us nice and dry through a sudden thunderstorm.

Berg Lake Trail. We visited another popular "A" rated Canadian park. We had the opportunity experience some dangerous rushing creek crossing.
Grade school balance beam practice is a must! Proper footing is required.

July 19th our voyage continued towards Jasper (4.5 hour drive). We drove the Ice Line hwy, which the famous Ice Fields is pictured here. We are now in Valemount for the night.

After hiking out on July 18th we tried our best to avoid the bears. We ate dinner at an Italian restaurant, which Bear #1 wanted to eat an adult sized meal instead of a kid's meal. He was definately hungry after the big hike.

The KOZ Family backpacked / hiked an incredible amount of miles during the 6 days at Assiniboine (July 13-18). 42 miles!!! Climbing over 2200 ft in elevation. Bring our vacation total to: 82.1 miles & 13500ft altitude gain. There are no quitters in this group. By the way, Bear #2 swam in a creek up to her neck (the waters must have been about 40F). She was quite chilled afterwards, as you might imagine.

The group of ladies pictured here not only shared their savory wine and tasty treats, but also conducted the first annual "Bryant Creek Shelter Talent Show". An Amazing skit the won best of show! Our private cabin had two bunks, wood stove, two windows, and a eating area. These cabins were built in 1928 by AO Wheeler, Alpine Club of Canada founder. Parks Canada modernized the structures in the 70's and recently replaced the roofs.

July 15th we visited Lake Sunburst and Cerulean. Amazing glacier fed lakes. We have been told that fishing is excellent, but we never saw any fish near the shores.

Mt. Assiniboine, resembling Switzerland's Matterhorn is Canada's seventh highest peak at 11,867 ft. Typically in the clouds, but a lucky day for all of us to see this amazing glaciated mountain. Sepp and Barb's daughter climbed this difficult mountain at age 12, making her the youngest person to climb the peak. It is quite dangerous to summit this mountain, because the immense amount of snow.

Barb kept the kids busy by having them compete in a game of "Jenga" She did dare Bear #3 to take a dip in Lake Magog before dinner. She also talked about the allusive Assiniboine hot springs, which we never found.

Afternoon tea at the lodge was a welcomed perk for everyone. We enjoyed the scrumptious treats of various cakes.. The kids enjoyed ginger snaps and lemon aid, while we sipped our black tea and ate pumpkin chocolate chip, spice cake, and a tropical fruit pound cake. Barb and Sepp Renner the hosts of the lodge were quite friendly and even shared guest stories. A quiet place to relax after a enduring day of hiking.

We visited the local Warden's cabin, about .25 mile away from the shelter. The Warden, who we can't recall her name was very informative. The bears asked if she packed any pistols. She said no, but she does carry a long arm. She has a posh cabin, with an outdoor sauna and shower. Pictured is her two horses, which trade off carrying her equipment..

The Bryant Creek Shelter was our home, for the first night. The entire hike is 16.5 miles, which the shelter is about midway through the hiking, making it a perfect resting point. Very primitive building. No cooking facilities or light -- Not that we didn't need lights, because sunlight is visible until 10:45 p.m.

"Dad, where is my horse?" Today we spent the evening at Holiday Farms, riding horseback to our remote steak dinner destination. The bears truly enjoyed this treat. (60 horses later, each bear found his or her special horse).
