July 5th -- Golden, BC

We reached our one night destination of Golden, British Columbia. Interesting mining town. Everything is over priced. .95 / liter of Gas, $2.00 load of laundry, $2.29 for a dozen of eggs, $3.50 / gal of milk, $6.99 for 16 oz package of cheese, $4.49 for a package of 8 flower tortillas, and the amazing 6.99 whole water Mellon. I don't think you will find these prices even in NYC. The town was filled with Korean tourists. They jammed the IGA grocery store making it a 20 minute adventure to purchase 7 items. They weren't talkative and were not polite at all. The best pick of the night was our sighting of a tour group leaving a whole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. Where there are happy Chinese people you know there is good Chinese food!!!! YES Virginia, we ate like kings!!!! Ken, the owner, picked our meal. He suggested a healthy meal for the children (orange juice, apple juice, and milk -- soda was bad for them ; Lemon Soo Gai for the main course (Breaded Chicken Breast in Lemon Sauce w/ an artistic presentation of Orange slices and tomato sculpture). Momma and Pappa bear were offered Ginger Fried Shredded Beef (Kids thought it was Orange chicken from Panda Express), Beef with Broccoli (to satisfy our vegetable intake for the day), and of course the House Special Chow Mein and House Special Fried Rice. Bear #3 had to take the Fried Rice leftovers home, because it was mmm good. We were also served Jasmin tea, which was stupendous. Ken discussed the loyalty of the family in Chinese culture. The generations keep close ties amongst each other, oppose to the American culture of the children spawning away from their parents. He ended by saying close family produce lasting memories. I fully agree with this remark.

Tomorrow our voyage continues 45 minutes away in Canada's Glacier Park. We will be there two nights trekking to more amazing places. Then we quickly whisk to our next backpacking adventure without a break for three more nights. (5 nights away from civilization.) Our next entries will be on Monday July 11th.

We appreciate your blog feedback. We hope you are enjoy this adventure as much as we are.
